SUSTAINABILITY

Zamani Islands aims to be the Maldives’ first fully renewable energy-powered destination. Beyond BIPV solar, energy efficiency is built into the architecture with sustainable materials, Net Zero buildings, agri-photovoltaics for food production, and hydroponic vertical farming. Indigenous landscaping further reduces the footprint. No fossil fuels are used for energy generation, ensuring operations rely solely on renewable sources. A zero-waste strategy ensures no resort waste goes to local landfills. Organic waste is composted, recyclables are sorted, and innovative up-cycling repurposes materials like glass, plastic, and metal. The system is designed to support neighboring resorts and local communities. Community engagement is central: hospitality training, support for local entrepreneurship, and initiatives for artisans and artists to showcase and monetize their work. Cultural showcases, fair trade, and local craft markets foster pride and sustainable economic growth. Zamani Islands also commits to empowering vulnerable community groups, creating socio-economic opportunities and ensuring its sustainability efforts are woven into the local social fabric.

Developer Track Record - Olhahali Island Maldives
The development team behind Zamani Islands has direct experience delivering greenfield island hospitality projects in the Maldives from reclamation stage through to operational stabilisation and institutional exit.

A relevant precedent is Olhahali Island Maldives, a fully reclaimed and engineered island developed from marine conditions into a completed luxury resort asset. The project encompassed marine works, coastal protection, full infrastructure installation, villa construction, and integration with international operator standards.

The resort officially opened in 2019. Within three months of opening, it achieved first place ranking on TripAdvisor among all Maldivian resorts based on guest reviews. This performance reflected immediate market acceptance and operational execution quality at launch stage.

In 2019, the property was included among the “100 Best Openings Worldwide” by Condé Nast. In the same year, it was recognised as Global Winner at the World Luxury Hotel Awards.

Under the Readers’ Choice Awards for the Indian Ocean region, the resort demonstrated consistent upward progression, ranking 30th in 2019, improving to 19th place in 2020, and reaching 4th place in 2021. This improvement trajectory within a relatively short operational timeframe reflected strengthening brand positioning and sustained guest satisfaction performance.

Following stabilisation, the asset was sold in 2021 as an operating hospitality business to Dubai Holding. It currently operates under the Jumeirah brand as Jumeirah Maldives Olhahali Island. The transaction was completed following operational stabilization and brand consolidation, demonstrating the ability to originate, develop, position and exit a Maldivian island asset within an institutional investment cycle.

The development, opening in 2019, rapid market recognition, and institutional sale in 2021 demonstrate execution capability within the Maldivian regulatory and marine environment, operational positioning within the luxury segment, and the ability to deliver an asset to a strategic buyer within a defined investment cycle.

The Maldives: More Than a Paradise

The Maldives is often seen through the lens of a travel brochure — turquoise lagoons, powder-soft beaches, and stilted villas gently hovering over crystal-clear waters. But beyond its postcard beauty lies one of the most compelling lifestyle and investment destinations of the 21st century.

Situated in the heart of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is an independent island nation comprising 26 atolls and over 1,000 islands, each offering a unique blend of untouched nature, refined hospitality, and curated seclusion. Its remote geography is not a limitation — it is a luxury.

Over the past two decades, the Maldives has transformed from an exotic getaway into a global magnet for luxury travelers, private equity firms, institutional investors, and family offices. Hospitality brands like Soneva, Cheval Blanc, Waldorf Astoria, Four Seasons, One&Only, and The Ritz-Carlton have redefined what it means to live and invest in paradise.

But it’s not only about leisure. The Maldivian government has successfully embraced sustainable tourism and foreign direct investment as key pillars of its economic strategy. With tourism contributing over 30% of GDP, the country has maintained political stability, favorable fiscal frameworks, and investor-friendly legislation that allows foreign ownership through long-term leases (up to 99 years), full repatriation of profits, and streamlined residency procedures.

In 2024 alone, the Maldives welcomed over 2 million tourists, with projections reaching 2.5 million by 2027 — a powerful signal of sustained demand. It remains the highest-performing hospitality market in the Indian Ocean in terms of RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) and ADR (Average Daily Rate), supported by year-round demand, consistent flight connectivity, and strict development regulations that protect value through scarcity.

For investors, the Maldives offers more than just returns — it offers relevance. In a world where discerning buyers seek privacy, wellness, and purposeful luxury, the Maldives delivers an experience that resonates on both emotional and financial levels.

Its growing luxury residential segment — particularly branded residences and resort-serviced villas — opens new horizons for those looking to diversify their portfolios, hedge against volatility, or secure a lasting lifestyle asset.

Above all, the Maldives is not just a destination. It is a declaration — of serenity, sophistication, and future-forward investment thinking.
